The Nunatsiavut Government is mourning the loss of an Inuit elder.
Rita Andersen passed away on Wednesday.
She began her career with the public service in November 1976 with the former Labrador Inuit Association, and retired in 2016 as Interpreter/Translator Coordinator with the Nunatsiavut Government.
They call Andersen a “tireless advocate for the promotion, revitalization, and protection of Labrador Inuttitut.”
They note that she was a recipient of numerous accolades including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, King Charles III Coronation Medal, and the NL Seniors of Distinction Award.
