The recent government shutdown in the United States sent domestic airline schedules into a tailspin south of the border, but the impact on Atlantic Canadian travellers has been minimal.
That’s according to the CAA’s Julia Kent.
She says despite 10 per cent of all U.S.-based air traffic having been cancelled, regional flights were the ones primarily affected.
She says the FAA has indicated that international flights would not be affected, “so if any Canadians are traveling from another country to the U.S. or from the U.S. to another country, they won’t be affected.” Flights to main hubs were also not affected.
In the meantime, Kent says Canadian travellers not comfortable flying to U.S. for a variety of reasons have lots of destinations to choose from.
“We’re seeing a lot of people go to Europe, or the Caribbean, travel within Canada, all of these things are options” says Kent of those who want to avoid travel to, or through the U.S. That said, she says the traffic turmoil reported in the States is by and large not affecting Canadian travellers.
