The mother of two boys allegedly raped by Tony Humby struggled to testify amid her own guilt this morning.

The woman is the mother of one boy and step-mother to another who both say Humby first molested them when they were just 13.

She said there were questions out of the blue about the legal age for consent and their sexuality, with one of them asking: “Mom, does it mean that I’m gay if I let him (do it).”

But there was also physical fallout, she said, with bleeding and bowel obstructions initially mistaken for a lack of fibre.

“I felt like an idiot,” she said, “thinking he had a bowel problem.”

The mother insisted she repeatedly told social workers and the police what was going on, with no action taken, and her boys were worried about retribution from other victims as well as Humby.

So she and her husband confronted Humby themselves at his house, telling him if he touched the boys again she’d “f’n kill him.”

The boys are now 19 and 20 years old, and all of their identities are banned from publication.

Humby is facing more than 70 sexual violence charges against a dozen teens. His co-accused, Bruce Escott has already been sentenced to 13 years in prison.
