The local president of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers is hopeful that the agreement-in-principal reached between the union and Canada Post is something that can be ratified.
The tentative deal was reached over the weekend.
Michael McDonald says it is good to see the two parties talking, but there is still a ways to go before the deal can be finalized.
He says first the two sides need to finalize the language in the agreement, then it needs to be brought to the membership for a ratification vote. If that can happen, he believes they would be in a “good position.”)
McDonald comments on what the deal could mean for areas of the province that still have door-to-door delivery.
He says door-to-door delivery was taken out of most of St. John’s in 2015 and with the new deal, areas like Corner Brook and Grand Falls-Windsor could see the same thing happen.
