Cenovus is not far from the production phase at the White Rose extension field off Newfoundland.
It has been twenty years since first oil at the main field, but broadening to wells beyond will extend the life by about 14 years.
Jon McKenzie, President and CEO of Cenovus, says there have been ups and downs over the years, especially when they were days away from starting work on the slip on the gravity based structure in Argentia – and then COVID-19 hit.
The project eventually got done, and now first oil is expected in the second quarter of 2026.
“Since then, the subsea tiebacks have been completed, integration of the platform into the West White Rose field has been completed, and we’re only days away from handing over the keys for the start-up phase,” McKenzie told a gathering at The Rooms this morning.
