Furey ‘Moving On’; Resigns as Premier
Premier Andrew Furey shocked the entire province – announcing that he was stepping down from political life, sparking a leadership race for his replacement.
Furey made the announcement in a hastily-called news conference in the Confederation Building lobby.
He said he would stay on until a new leader is chosen.

Crew Members Rescued from Cargo Ship that Ran Aground

All 20 crew members were rescued from a cargo ship that ran aground on the west coast of the province – the Baltic iii.
The vessel first went adrift early in the early morning hours of a Saturday after losing engine power before daybreak.
In a statement, Premier Andrew Furey thanked first responders who worked through a blustery morning to save the crew members.

Premiers Take United Stance on Tariffs During Trip to Washington
Canada’s Premiers in Washington, D.C. (CPAC)
Canada’s 13 premiers were in Washington D.C. to bring a united message to the U.S. government on the impact of a potential trade war on both countries.
U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order this week imposing 25 per cent tariffs on all imports of steel and aluminum into the United States—including Canada.
His administration has subsequently indicated that any future tariffs imposed against Canada would be applied on top of the steel and aluminum tariff.

NLC Pulling American Products from Liquor Stores
Newfoundland and Labrador was the latest province to pull American products from its liquor stores.
Premier Andrew Furey posted on social media that he will pull the products from NLC stores.
U.S. President Donald Trump followed through on threats of significant tariffs on imported goods from Canada.

Toronto Police Charge Gander Man in 1998 Murder
A Gander man was been charged with first degree murder in connection to a decades’ old homicide investigation in Toronto.
The Toronto Police Service says 24-year-old Donna Oglive was found dead just after 7 a.m. on March 8th, 1998 in a parking lot on Carlton Street.
Oglive was a resident of British Columbia, and had only been in Toronto for about 5 weeks.
It was determined that she had been strangled, with police believing it was the result of a “sex trade transaction.”

Corey Crewe, Half of Beloved Duo ‘Corey & Trina,’ Dies at 80

Well-known local husband and wife duo, Corey and Trina have been reunited, with the passing of Corey Crewe.
Crewe passed away at the Miller Centre. He was 80 years old.
Born in Grand Bank, Crewe and his wife Trina Fulford performed across the province as a musical duo from the 1970s to the 1990s.
Among their best-known songs was The Northern Lights of Labrador, written by Trina’s brother, Don Fulford. Crewe also performed as a solo artist and enjoyed a fulfilling career as a teacher in Alberta and Manitoba.
