An attempt to revive a decades-old tradition in Gander fell short as the Royal Canadian Legion sold just 10 tickets for its New Year’s Eve Gala.
The annual celebrations were halted during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Legion was hoping to resurrect it this year to mark its 75th anniversary.
The Gander Legion had a roaring 20s-themed party planned, with live music and food throughout the night, but poor interest quashed their plans.
Spokeperson Allison Butler says since COVID, events in and around the town have struggled.
“I’m not sure if I’m really surprised,” she told VOCM News.
“COVID kind of took the wind out of those sails. I know people are still a little gun shy about going out into public post-COVID. And I think that’s a big deal. ”
