Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s has one of the lowest property tax rates in the metro region after reducing it for 2026.
Mayor Dave Bartlett says his town, population just over 8,000, looked at everything in their budget preparation.
There is tax relief for low-income property owners, and the general mil rate is about 25 per cent lower than towns and cities in metro.
He says they really wanted to lower the mil rate while also maintaining and improving what the town has to offer. The town was able to lower the residential mil rate to 6.6 from 7.0.
