The Premier of Quebec is stepping down.
Premier Francois Legault, whose popularity has plummeted, was signatory to a deal between Newfoundland and Labrador and Hydro Quebec to develop Gull Island and expand Churchill Falls.
The MOU, negotiated between Premier Legault and then-premier Andrew Furey a little over a year ago, was never cemented into a legally finished product.
Current Premier Tony Wakeham is reviewing the MOU to ensure that it gives Newfoundland and Labrador the best possible deal.
The original deadline to finalize the hydro agreement is April.
Legault will remain in power until a new leader is chosen.
The outgoing premier mentioned the MOU with Newfoundland and Labrador in his resignation speech, saying it is a win-win for both provinces.
