Skills Canada is encouraging employers to sign up for its Youth Apprenticeship Summer Program.
The program helps to connect students in grades 10 and 11 with an employer to help gain apprenticeship skills.
A manager with Skills Canada, Josh Ivany, says the program serves to get young people started on the path toward a successful career in the skilled trades.
He says it “gives students exposure and hands-on experience, mentorship from industry and professionals, and the opportunity to log apprenticeship hours for their future career in the skilled trades.”
Students have to be available to work for seven weeks full-time after school, and interested in the skilled trades.
Employers must be a registered and insured business in Newfoundland and Labrador, they need a certified journey person on staff to supervise and you need to commit to take on a student for the full 7 week time period.
The deadline for employers to have their applications in is January 30th, with applications opening for students in March.
