Perhaps not surprisingly, the provincial government is currently reviewing the status of its Boston Office.
The office was first announced by then-premier Andrew Furey as a way to secure economic opportunities for Newfoundland and Labrador in the New England states.
It may have seemed like a good idea at its conception, however a lot has changed since then.
The former government received a lot of criticism last spring in light of the trade war launched by U.S. President Donald Trump, in forging ahead with hiring for the satellite office which opened in September.
While the trade war appears to have cooled somewhat, Trump’s rhetoric on Greenland and increasingly hostile relations with the international community have changed the relationship Canada once enjoyed with the United States.
When asked, a provincial government official would only say that the status of the Boston Office is under review.
