The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says they key word for commuters today will be “patience.”
The metro region continues to dig out from near record amounts of snowfall. More fell overnight, and a rise in temperatures has creates some slushy and wet conditions for drivers to contend with.
Constable Steph Myers says they are still experiencing and expecting “less than desirable conditions,” noting the rise in temperatures will impact the commute home.
She says there will be lots of standing water and slush. She says municipalities are doing their best, but it will be a “slow and long process” before everything gets cleaned up.
Myers states that the massive snowbanks that have formed throughout the region are creating serious safety concerns.
She says people are poking the nose of their car out to see around snowbanks, stop signs are covered, and even traffic lights are difficult to see. Myers urges people to stop and “check, check, double check” before heading out into any intersection.
