Old Man Winter spared the Avalon in his latest trek across the province, concentrating instead on central Newfoundland.
Environment Canada meteorologist Erica Price says temperatures could reach as high as plus 6 over the eastern and southern portions of the island, keeping any precipitation on the wet side.
In central Newfoundland it’s a different story with the transition to rain not expected until mid-day in Gander and more snow for areas further west.
She says Buchans and Deer Lake will see more snow, while the transition to rain “is more of an east coast situation.”
Capital city brings in contractors
The city of St. John’s is doing what it can to clear near-record amounts of snow from city streets.
Council lead for Public Works Greg Noseworthy says they know residents are frustrated and he’s offering assurances that the city will get to all areas as quickly as possible.
He says they’re bringing in contractors to help with the work.
Noseworthy admits there will be problem areas, but generally speaking, residents have been very understanding.
