The RCMP in this province is reporting a significant decrease in the number of fatal crashes within its jurisdictions last year.
The Mounties say there was nearly a 50 per cent decrease in fatal accidents in the areas they cover last year.
Officers responded to 15 fatal crashes in 2025. Seven of those incidents happened on the TCH and eight happened on what they’re calling “secondary roads.” Three of the accidents were moose-vehicle collisions.
Sixteen people were killed In those crashes – including two motorcyclists and one pedestrian.
The RCMP state that while this is a “dramatic” decrease from the 33 lives lost in 2024, “it is still far too many.”
Meanwhile, police have seen an increase in the number of people wearing a seatbelt.
Of the people who were killed in crashes last year, three people – or eighteen per cent – were not wearing a seatbelt. That’s compared to 58 per cent in 2024.
