A Waterford Hospital patient charged with murder remains in legal limbo following another court call this week.
Thirty-one-year-old Thomas Parsley is accused of attacking another patient, 66-year-old Tom Poole, who died of his injuries two days later.
It happened at the Waterford in December of 2024, four months before the move to the new mental health and addictions centre.
That’s where Parsley has remained hospitalized in the secure forensics unit, undergoing psychiatric assessments to establish mental fitness to stand trial.
His lawyer, Mark Gruchy, has repeatedly referred to his client as “in and out” and “very ill,” and expects the doctor’s report to confirm that.
But court was told this week that the assessment information was somehow “misfiled” on the hospital’s end.
As a result, the case had to be postponed again, until March 12fth, when it’s hoped the report will be found and filed with the court.
The victim’s family has been vocal regarding their experience with “systemic problems” surrounding mental health.
Parsley was already facing charges of assault with a weapon and uttering threats against a nurse at the Waterford two months before the fatal attack.
