The MHA for Placentia & St. Mary’s says Placentia needs immediate help with its wave wall as it is becoming an issue of public safety.
The wall has exceeded its 30-year shelf life and water is getting through.
The provincial government says it has met with the town to see what needs to be done.
MHA Sherry Gambin-Walsh asked government in the House of Assembly this week to find the money to fix the protective structure.
“The infrastructure is corroded,” she told the House. “Sea water is breaching the wall and up through manholes and coming in at dangerous levels.”
Infrastructure Minister Barry Petten says they first need a lot more information.
“We assured the town of Placentia that we will not leave them behind,” said Minister Petten. “We have to figure out what’s involved, what the costs are and what’s needed to repair it.”
