Brad Gushue’s legendary curling career has come to an end on home ice in St. John’s.
Gushue was eliminated Saturday afternoon at the 2026 Montana’s Brier, falling to defending champion Brad Jacobs and Team Canada 7-5.
The loss marks the final game of Gushue’s decorated career, which included Olympic gold at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and multiple Brier titles representing Newfoundland and Labrador.
“I’m thankful for the amount of appreciation and love that I was showed. I think that was special to me, and that’s a memory I’ll have for the rest of my life,” he told reporters after the loss.
“Obviously the disappointment of a loss and being knocked out still hits hard, but to see that sort of love, I’m not sure how to describe it. That’s pretty amazing. I feel very fortunate and yeah, I’m going to miss this.”
The St. John’s native had announced the 2026 Brier would be his final national championship appearance
