A Newfoundlander living in Qatar says the situation in the Middle Eastern country is tense given the war involving the U.S., Israel and Iran.
Darren Butte says his family is safe, but missiles have been flying overhead, causing great fear and uncertainty.
He says Qatar is a peaceful country, but as one of the world’s richest nations, it has a robust missile defence system.
He says Qatari residents are alerted on their phones to shelter in place when necessary.
A missile was intercepted right above the hotel he’s staying in in Doha yesterday.
“It shook the hotel, and it was a pretty good vibration,” says Butte, “so it wasn’t too far away, but still, at the same time…we’re getting fewer and fewer of those attacks. Still, we’re getting missiles every day, but we’re not getting as many as we were on day 1, day 2, day 3.”
