Memorial University has revealed who will receive honourary degrees at their spring convocation ceremonies next month.
In total six people will be honoured at the ceremonies.
Singer-songwriter Alan Doyle will receive a doctor of letters degree, as will historian and writer James Candow.
Educator, lawyer and senator George Furey, RNC Constable Georgina Short, artist Jean Claude Roy, and Indigenous healthcare “trailblazer” Mary Pia Benuen will all be conferred doctor of laws degrees.
Recipients are chosen by MUN’s senate from submissions sent in by the public.
the university says the honourary doctorate degree is designed to recognize extraordinary contributions to society or exceptional intellectual or artistic achievement.
Convocation ceremonies are taking place at the Corner Brook Arts and Culture Centre on May 14th, and at the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre from May 26 to the 29.
