The NDP has questioned what it calls clear use of AI on a social media post shared by Premier Tony Wakeham, just 24 hours after the premier indicated that the use of AI “cannot continue.”
The image in question was used to honour Red Dress Day.
Government says the image was created by an “in-house graphic designer,” and any anomalies were the result of the use of “artistic filters.”
NDP Leader Jim Dinn says he hopes government will learn its lesson and instead of algorithms, use art by local artists in their social media posts.
“It is disappointing, but more importantly, how many times does it have to happen before it stops or it’s corrected? I really hope that there won’t be any more questions on it,” he said.
“I’m hoping that they’ll finally put it to bed, learn their lesson, and deal with it. And I have a funny feeling there are probably more images in the hopper that have gone through an artistic filter.”
Wakeham says if it did go through AI, he’s frustrated that it has once again crept into the conversation.
