The Canadian Country Music Awards are coming to St. John’s in September 2027.
The announcement was made this morning at Mary Brown’s Centre.
The event will be held during Canadian Country Music Week, and officials say it will bring nearly $15-million in economic activity to the capital city region.
That’s equivalent to the recent Brier.
President of the Canadian Country Music Association Amy Jeninga, says interest in country music in Newfoundland and Labrador has grown significantly, and it was a no-brainer to bring the awards to the capital city for the first time.
“Having never been here and it being such a big piece of your community. We actually recently did a data study and there are super fans here that over-index and country music is so ingrained not only in their listening habits but their lifestyle,” she told reporters.
“I think it’s really important that we come here to celebrate and also get to know the community and integrate and create legacy and connections moving forward.”
