The provincial government will mark the beginning of Pride Month with a flag raising ceremony today at Confederation Building.
Women and gender equality minister Lela Evans will be on hand for the event, which will include a performance by the Spectrum Queer Choir.
Evans, who calls herself a “proud, out, Queer member of the PC caucus,” says Pride is about “acceptance and human dignity” and “an opportunity to stand together in support of diversity.”
“Pride is also about visibility. For many people, especially youth, seeing communities, workplaces, schools and governments openly support diversity can help reduce isolation and encourage acceptance. It also sends a powerful message for all of us that people are valued for who they are and that discrimination and hate have no place in our society.”
The event takes place at 10 a.m. in the main lobby. VOCM News will be there.
