The City of Corner Brook says the union which represents employees of the Civic Centre is giving out inaccurate information.
The employees have been locked out by the city after voting solidly in favour of a strike.
It says the $16.99 rate of pay for casual workers referred to by CUPE has not been used for a considerable period of time, and the cost of removing the ice surface is not $48,000, but less than $1,000.
Further, the employer says the Civic Centre does not generate a profit but relies on a city subsidy of about $1.5-million annually.
City council says it did not get a 23 per cent pay raise two years ago as the motion to increase remuneration failed to get the two-thirds majority required.
The city says it will be doing no further interviews with the media on the labour dispute, which has resulted in many activities, including ice hockey and figure skating, being cancelled.
