A Barrie, Ontario pilot who flew some 900 domestic and international flights, logging tens of thousands of flight hours, is facing criminal charges after passing himself off as a captain without ever obtaining the associated air transport licence.
Geoff Wall, a former licenced Air Canada pilot with a 27-year career, is alleged to have used forged documents falsely proving his credentials as a captain on a variety of aircraft, including the Boeing 767, 777 and 787.
Peel Regional Police held a news conference today outlining the investigation dubbed Project Icarus, and the charges against Wall.
Lead Investigator Deputy Sergeant Chad Mitchell says the investigation was launched in February after Transport Canada flagged anomalies in Wall’s documentation during a routine operational evaluation.
He says the pilot licence documentation presented by Wall was examined and investigated and then passed over to Peel Regional Police for further criminal investigation.
Deputy Sergeant Mitchell alleges that the evidence collected during the investigation showed that the accused operated as a captain from 2009 to 2025 “without having ever possessed an airline transport pilot licence…known as an ATPLA…a requirement to operate the type of aircraft the accused flew at the rank of captain.”
Peel Regional also allege that the accused had not completed the associated and necessary Transport Canada exams to earn an ATPLA, and that the accused possessed and presented “altered and counterfeit government-issued pilot licences and documentation.”
Wall is scheduled to appear in Brampton court on June 29th on charges of fraud over $5,000, two counts of uttering forged documents, three counts of possession of counterfeit mark, and public mischief.
