A group consisting of high-level executives, mostly from the public sector, is urging the provincial government to “do its homework” and not rush back into negotiations with Quebec on the MOU.
The group consists of former NL Hydro President and CEO Bill Wells, Des Sullivan, David Vardy, Cathy Beehan, and Gabe Gregory.
In February, they submitted a report to the MOU review committee.
The review committee’s final report has since been released, and Gregory, who is a spokesperson for the group, says they reached many of the same conclusions.
Gregory doesn’t think there is any public evidence to suggest the province is prepared to head back to the table.
He says they would caution against government quickly jumping back into negotiations, noting there is lots of “strategic work” that needs to be done to prepare. He says the issues that need to be addressed in the document aren’t simple fixes; they are “fundamental, major problems.”
