Police forces across the country are grieving with numerous officers killed or seriously injured in the line of duty over the last few weeks.
In the last three weeks, three officers have been killed and three more seriously injured in connection with four separate events across the country.
The most recent loss was yesterday in Montreal where 34-year-old Mohamed Lamine Benredouane was shot dead while responding to reports of an armed man at a local hotel.
A second officer was seriously injured in the attack that also claimed the life of a civilian and the suspect.
Ontario Provincial Police Constable Tarun Bali was killed earlier this month after being struck by a vehicle while trying to stop a suspect who had escaped from a hospital in Hearst. An 18-year-old has since been charged with first-degree murder.
Two days later, Toronto Police Service Constable Marc Pinizzotto was shot and killed while carrying out a search warrant in connection with criminal-for-hire networks.
Two RCMP officers are in hospital with serious and potentially life-altering injuries after they were shot at the scene of a disturbance at a home in Melville, Saskatchewan on Sunday night.
A 55-year-old man is now facing several charges – including attempted murder.
