Organizers of the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival got the weather, the numbers and donations they were hoping for on the weekend with a scaled-down version of the music fest.
The sun shone, and the guitars and fiddles belted out the tunes for 12 hours in Bannerman Park on Saturday.
The event has been in financial murkiness for the past couple of years with a new board at the Folk Arts Society piecing things back together.
Jean Hewson, interim chair of the group, says it was smiles all around as the crowd grew throughout the day and evening.

“The park was pretty well full on the main field for the afternoon and evening. People were really enjoying it,” says Hewson.
“I would say at peak point there were probably between 1,300 and 1,500 people in the park.”
There was no admission fee but donations were accepted, and Hewson says they raised about $15,000.
She likes the idea of having in their old time slot, the Saturday after the Royal St. John’s Regatta, but that decision will be made a little later.
