One of the “other” regattas in the metro region is all set to begin tomorrow.
The Mundy Pond Regatta, which had been dormant for decades, was revived a few years ago. The races begin around 11:00 and things wind up later in the afternoon.
Portugal Cove-St. Philips had its regatta a couple of days ago and the granddaddy of them all, St. John’s, goes the first Wednesday in August, weather permitting.
Ward III Councillor Greg Noseworthy is one who will be on the pond tomorrow.
His rowing teammate is also owing in the St. John’s Regatta. Noseworthy says there are a number of crews in heir mid-teens getting involved in the sport.
While similar to Quidi Vidi, he notes that there are differences in the composition of crews.
There will be two rowers per boat and male, female and co-ed crews. He says there will be plenty of attractions and booths.
