The public flying experience could look a lot different in the coming decades as Ottawa considers the privatization of some major airports.
Earlier this year the federal government announced a Sovereign Wealth Fund – also known as the Canada Strong Fund.
To inject money into the fund, the feds are considering the privatization of some major airports – though the concept is still in the very early stages.
John Gradek, an airport expert at McGill University, expects that cities like Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and Montreal will be high on the priority list because they could result in the biggest return for government.
Ultimately, he believes it will become an issue of real estate and what can be done with undeveloped land at each facility.
