The Town of Holyrood is having trouble finding where all the water is going but until it does, it’s imposing restrictions to reduce consumption.
The Conception Bay town says the wells are pumping the water, so availability is not the issue – it’s the loss of water.
Holyrood has used leak detection equipment but found no leak, and did a manual inspection of known trouble areas but, again, found nothing.
The graph from the water system shows the same pattern of water loss over the 24-hour period of each day over the last two weeks.
A temporary water ban is in now in effect to allow the town to further investigate and replenish supply. That means non-essential outdoor use such as washing cars, filling swimming pools and washing driveways is prohibited. Newly-seeded or sodded lawns can be watered but only at certain times.
