Newfoundland and Labrador returned American products to liquor store shelves last year, but Premier Tony Wakeham says NLC will start to re-order new inventory as a result of the trade deal reached with the United States.
The stock was removed from store shelves in February of 2025 and placed in storage, but was returned to liquor stores in December.
Within just a few months, some $3 million worth of American alcohol had been sold, $1 million of which was donated to the Community Food Sharing Association.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation says of the product initially removed and returned to store shelves, approximately 11 per cent remains.
Premier Tony Wakeham says that equates to about $400,000 in inventory still not sold.
Wakeham jokes that it’s clear what customers want, and what they don’t want.
“We know what we shouldn’t buy now when it comes to ordering form the U.S., but the question of whether or not people will support it, that’s the individual’s choice obviously.”
