Rising fuel prices are hitting all Canadians hard, but none perhaps more so than those living on fixed incomes.

This province has some of the highest fuel prices in all of Canada.

Kimberly Leonard of Seniors NL says they’re hearing from people across the province who are struggling to get around.

She says the cost of getting to medical appointments or even going out to get groceries is of utmost concern to seniors and their families. Leonard says visiting family and taking part in all-important social outings is becoming more difficult.

Leonard says the rising cost of living is forcing some older residents to make some difficult choices “in either buying food, buying their prescriptions…and some are choosing not to go to their medical appointments because they feel they do not have the funds for that.”
