Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services is celebrating a milestone in Conception Bay North.
Carbonear General Hospital first opened 50 years ago, in September 1976, replacing the old Red Cross hospital which was founded in 1957.
The health authority says in that time, the hospital has evolved from a community-based acute care facility to a modern regional health centre that provides a number of specialized services.
