Starting this fall, private pharmacists will be able to offer free flu vaccines to the public.
For years the Pharmacists’ Association had been lobbying for it in order to help reduce strain on the health care system.
PANL Executive Director Jennifer Collingwood told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly the provincial government is hoping to increase flu immunization to 80 per cent.
Starting this year, everyone aged 5 and older will be able to get a free flu shot at their local pharmacy.
Health officials say it’s more important this year than ever before that people get their flu shot during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The provincial government says modifications will be made to flu clinics to this year to ensure proper public health measures are in place. Clinics will be arranged to avoid overcrowding and maintain physical distancing.
