A group that helps to address food insecurity in the province is working to make sure people have a hot meal and the essentials they need this Thanksgiving Weekend.
NL Eats created a mobile food bank, where they deliver the food to you, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to get food to those who need it without the need for a centralized meeting place.
Lindsay Newman, the director of external affairs with NL Eats, was with a group of volunteers yesterday boxing up Thanksgiving hampers to be delivered to those who need it most.
They were putting together hampers with turkey, vegetables, and hygiene products to ensure people can “enjoy good company during Thanksgiving as well as good food.”
Newman says they received a donation from the YMCA and Community Food Centres Canada, and they held a recycling drive to make the hampers possible. Altogether, they were able to gather $3,500 worth of food
