With some snow on the way for parts of the island tonight, the provincial government is permitting the use of studded tires effective immediately.
The first snow of the season is in the forecast for parts of central, western, and northern Newfoundland.
In a special weather statement, Environment Canada says upwards of five centimetres may fall by tomorrow morning. Much of that is expected to be washed away by rain.
Given the chance for deteriorating road conditions, Service NL says drivers can install their studded tires as of today.
