Extending my condolences on the passing of an iconic Water Street business owner, Mr. William Chafe. ( William L. Chafe & Son Ltd.)
I’ve know him for many years and always enjoyed visiting the store. Sympathies to his family and the downtown business community. pic.twitter.com/HGPL3mOwtg

Former city councillor Tom Hann remembers Chafe as a “fixture in the downtown core.”
Hann hosted a Saturday afternoon volunteer radio program that was sponsored by Chafe for decades. Hann used to go into the store every two or three months and Chafe would always tell him “You made me famous.”
A caller regaled VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly with some of her fond memories of Chafe growing up.
Listen to the call with Patricia Ennis Burke below:
The funeral will take place from Caul’s Chapel on Sunday.
