Two brothers from Bauline were recognized in the town this week for their heroic action in helping to save the life of a man on Duck Pond earlier this year.
Bill and Wade LeGrow were recognized on November 11 with the Mayor’s Commendation for helping to save the life of a young man who ran into trouble on the pond on May 20.
The man was testing out a Sea-Doo when the machine capsized, throwing him into the frigid water. Wade LeGrow’s wife Jackie sounded the alarm after noticing the man in the water immediately across from their home, and a person frantically calling for help from the shore.
That’s when Wade and Bill jumped into action—the young man shouted to them he couldn’t hang on to the overturned machine much longer.
They pulled on their life jackets, hauled out their aluminum boat, and rowed out to the man who they brought back to shore.
The Pouch Cove Volunteer Fire Department, which responded to the scene, provided medical attention to the man, but said he might not have survived were it not for the swift action of the LeGrow brothers.
Bill and Wade received commendations from Bauline Mayor Craig LeGrow for outstanding courage while rescuing a distressed boater in the midst of a global pandemic as well as a Mayor’s coin of appreciation and the Bauline Flag.
