Premier Andrew Furey says Newfoundland and Labrador will host one of the 14 COVID-19 vaccine distribution sites, as announced today by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
At the start of today’s provincial update, Furey says the Health Science Centre will receive some 1,950 vaccines next week for distribution and expects another shipment to arrive the following week. That includes two thermal shippers.
It’s part of a national rollout of about 249,000 doses of Pfizer’s vaccine, which will see shipments continuing to arrive into January. This is pending the final approval from Health Canada, which is anticipated to come down in the next few days.

As well, Premier Furey declared that measures implemented surrounding the Atlantic Bubble two weeks ago will be extended for another month. This means anyone travelling to this province from the Atlantic provinces will be expected to self-isolate for 14 days.
There are no new cases of COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador today. Two new recoveries have been reported, bringing the total number of active cases to 28.
The investigation continues into the source of cases identified in the Central Health region over the weekend.
