Concerns are heightening in the Harbour Breton area with confirmation of two recent COVID cases, both connected to the local Health Centre.
The two cases—both of which are under investigation—involve what Health Minister John Haggie calls a “hands-on” healthcare worker and someone who works in administration at the facility.
That’s prompted Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald to urge residents of Harbour Breton and surrounding communities to stay home if possible, especially if you are experiencing even mild symptoms.
She’s asking people to take extra precautions for the time being and to hold off on hosting gatherings.
A mobile testing site is being established in the area and anyone experiencing symptoms is being encouraged to get tested.
Central Health says their facilities remain open and risk assessments are being carried out on all patients, while staff are required to complete a daily shift self-assessment.
COVID screening is also in place for designated visitors.
