Air Canada has announced more service cuts to the Atlantic region effective in January.
They include the suspension of service to Deer Lake, Charlottetown, Fredericton, and Halifax.
The Halifax-Deer Lake route is being suspended indefinitely next month, while the Toronto-Deer Lake service is being reduced to four days a week.
The Atlantic Canada Airports Association says it was informed of the cuts today.
President of the ACAA, Derrick Stanford says it’s the third major round of cuts to air service for the region in the last six months.
He says the industry cannot survive and operate in those conditions and the worst-case scenario is playing out. He says the cuts, effective January 11, will have a huge impact on the region’s economy.
