Two women have been arrested and charged following a drug seizure that resulted from a recent traffic stop in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

A patrol officer noticed a truck swerving on Hamilton River Road last Thursday evening and pulled it over.

The driver, 24-year-old Peggy Heard, had her license suspended and is accused of being impaired. Police say a quantity of drugs was found on Heard.

Her passenger, 37-year-old Joelene Pardy, was subsequently arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

A search of the truck resulted in the seizure of a quantity of cash, a substance suspected to be cocaine and items that police say are consistent with drug-trafficking.

The women are each facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.
