Public health has not yet begun bringing in health care workers from outside the capital city to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
There are significant restrictions surrounding the Pfizer product. Because of the temperature at which it has to be stored, it can only be administered at the Health Sciences Centre.
Health Minister Dr. John Haggie says they are still working their way through vaccinating COVID-related workers at the HSC and St. Clare’s.
As freezer capacity increases, so too does the mobility of the vaccine.
True mobility, the minister says, will require Pfizer to let the province “off the leash a little bit” in terms of how the vaccine can be moved.
The Moderna vaccine, which is being administered in the US starting today, does not have to be frozen.
