A 34-year-old Paradise woman has a date with the courts on impaired driving charges after allegedly speeding past a police car on the Trans-Canada and blowing nearly twice the legal limit.
According to RCMP, an officer was on patrol in the westbound lane of the Trans-Canada near Soldier’s Pond when a vehicle pulled out and passed the police cruiser at 153 km/h.
The woman’s vehicle was stopped and when brought back to St. John’s, her breath samples registered at nearly twice the legal limit.
She’s facing charges of impaired driving, exceeding the legal limit and excessive speeding. Her licence was suspended and vehicle impounded. She was released to appear in court March 12.
That was one of a number of recent alleged impaired driving incidents on the Avalon Peninsula in recent days.
On Tibb’s Eve, a 58-year-old Burin Peninsula man was pulled over on the TCH near Veteran’s Memorial after police received reports of an erratic driver.
The man provided breath samples that were nearly three times the legal limit, according to police. His vehicle was impounded and his licence suspended.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old driver was stopped at a checkpoint in Avondale on the evening of Monday, December 28. A drug influence evaluation was conducted and police say charges of drug-impaired driving are expected to be laid. The young man’s vehicle was impounded and his licence was suspended.
