It looks as though the eastern portion of the island may not have favourable firework conditions for tonight.
According to Environment Canada Meteorologist David Neil, the day will be wet for most.
In the morning, snow will start in the west and move eastward to the Avalon by the evening, turning to rain as temperatures rise. On the Avalon, it could start as a rain-snow mix but quickly turns to rain.
As well, some stronger southerly winds will begin late morning in western and southern Newfoundland, in the east beginning in the afternoon with gusts upwards of 70 km/h expected across the island.
By the time 2020 comes to an end, conditions will be good in the west and central, but Neil describes the forecast for the east as “dicy.”
Some of those wind gusts will still be lingering and it will still be raining as 2020 comes to a close.
As for the Big Land, Neil says southeast and central Labrador could see between 5 to 10 cm of snow, but elsewhere conditions will be good.
