The City of St. John’s continues to work through issues presented by a homemade outdoor rink in the Clovelly area, but they did not shut it down.
Warren Norris built the rink, the same as he has for the past two or three years, but somebody with safety concerns complained to city council. Staff told Norris that electricity to the rink had to be turned off, but the rink was allowed to operate through the weekend. Staff are now wading through a land issue.
Norris understands concerns about the electrical but not about the actual on-ice activity. He says there are many backyard rinks not only in metro but right across the country.
His son’s birthday is in March and he says they have a ball playing on the rink.
