The President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of School Councils says he is disappointed that they were not consulted before the English School District gave the go-ahead to use school buildings as polling stations.
The Federation says they have been “bombarded” with phone calls from angry parents regarding the decision.
Don Coombs says they lobbied to get students back in school and for parents to understand the guidelines and why they have been put in place.
He says the Federation is a player in the province’s education system and he is very disappointed that they were not involved in the decision making process for opening up the schools for elections purposes, calling it the “wrong decision at the wrong time”
Coombs says everyone is trying hard to make this school year work, but he feels this decision throws all of that away for a day. He believes everything could have been improved with better dialogue.
