The RCMP are reminding people in the province of rules and safety tips for snowmobiling as the winter months stretch along. They say many areas of the province continue to see underage operators of snowmobiles on the roadways.
Anyone under the age of 13 is not allowed to operate such machines as they lack the proper judgement and physical skills to do so safely. As well, although helmets are not a legal requirement, the RCMP is strongly encouraging their use. As well, goggles and face shields are required when a snowmobile does not have a windshield.
Finally, it has been a mostly mild winter thus far, meaning most bodies of water in the province are not safe for travel. Police are asking residents to avoid such areas when on their machines, and to continually check ice conditions.
