The province’s Citizen’s Rep is conducting an investigation into the quality and quantity of food being supplied to inmates at the Corrections Centre in Bishop’s Falls.
The 22 inmates at the facility are said to be conducting a hunger strike in protest of the food services contract at the facility.
A spokesperson for the inmates says they’re fed up with the quality of the food being provided which they say includes moldy bread, and foreign objects including human hair and in one case, a rolling paper found in their meals.
Citizen’s Representative Bradley Moss was contacted late last year and is conducting an investigation into what he says is a contract compliance issue. He toured the facility last fall as part of an investigation into that complaint.
He confirms that he is in the midst of an active investigation into a complaint he took personally late last year and is working with senior officials within the Department of Justice and Public Safety.
