It’s the start of the May long weekend, and the RCMP will be out in force looking for speeders, drunk drivers, people without seat belts, and drivers who don’t concern themselves with the proper driving credentials.
Corporal Jolene Garland, media relations officer with the RCMP, says you may see them and you may not see them. She says to expect checkpoints in various locations across the province and greater traffic enforcement.
As it will be a busy cabin-country weekend, they’re reminding the public about proper ATV safety.

She says sometimes in cabin-country, people lose their inhibitions when it comes to an ATV versus what they would do around town in a motor vehicle. They’re asking people to use common sense and good judgment.
Corporal Garland is offering some safety tips heading into the long weekend.
She says to be careful as when bad things happen, they happen fast and without notice. Wear your seatbelt, helmet and life jacket, and practice patience on the highways.
If you see aggressive driving, the RCMP wishes that you report it as soon as possible.
